The Tucson Museum of Art is a substantial gallery which was founded in 1924 and comprises of the main building as well as numerous historic buildings on the same site. The main part of the collection is of Native American art as well as more recent American West influenced artworks, although these are changed on a regular basis. There are some interesting examples of early Native American art, but the gallery also displays a selection of modern art, so the collection is quite broad in its depth. It’s worth asking the staff for a quick overview of the site, as it’s quite a maze of rooms and different areas and there some parts that can be easily missed.

There’s a restaurant at the museum, the Cafe a la C’art, which is above average for a dining outlet at a location such as this, and they’re proud of their rating as one of the top ten museum restaurants as judged by Food & Wine Magazine. It’s located in the 1865 building which is part of the block buildings and the signature dish is the Mixed Berry Buttermilk Cake and Chocolate Bomb. The restaurant is open from 08.00 until 14.00 from Sundays to Tuesdays and from 08.00 until 21.00 on Wednesdays to Saturdays.

There is an admission charge of $12 for adults, $10 for concessions and $7 for students. The museum is open from 10.00 until 17.00 on Tuesdays to Saturdays, from 12.00 until 17.00 on Sundays and is closed on Mondays. The historic block buildings are open from 10.00 until 17.00 on Wednesdays and from 12.00 until 17.00 on Sundays only.
