This museum is the only one of its type in the country and it has extensive collections from China and other countries in southern and eastern Asia. The museum first opened in 1993 when Brian McElney, a resident of Hong Kong, donated his collection in a charitable gift. There are currently around two thousand items in the museum with collections including jade, ceramics, metalwear, wooden sculpture and carvings.

It’s a nicely laid out museum with many beautiful pieces, although a visit here is unlikely to take more than around an hour. There are three floors for visitors to explore and there are clear descriptions by the items on display. The staff members at the museum are helpful and knowledgeable with a small shop available at the entrance desk.

There is an admission charge of £5 for adults, £4 for concessions and free entry for students and children. The museum is closed on Mondays, but is open from 10.00 until 17.00 on Tuesdays to Saturdays and from 12.00 until 17.00 on Sundays.
